About Joy Davy, M.S., L.C.P.C., N.C.C.
I have two masters degrees. The first is in English, from Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. The second is in Counseling, from National-Louis University in Lisle, Illinois. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.
Before going into private practice as a therapist, I worked at a shelter for survivors of domestic violence, at the county health department with at-risk youth, in community counseling agencies, and in public schools. I have also taught college, worked as an artist on commission, written a book, and have experience as a birth doula. In short, I bring a lot of varied life experience to my counseling work.
I am multicultural, offering counseling in Spanish, French, and English.
My therapy style is supportive and collaborative. Compassionate honesty is the characteristic I most value both personally and professionally. I use mindfulness approaches and guided imagery with clients who find these beneficial.
Causes near and dear to my heart include: animal rescue, Attachment Parenting International, La Leche League International, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, mindfulness and natural, holistic health.
Here is a link to an interview that I did on an internet radio show on the topic of the Animal-Human Connection. The host is Life Coach Belle Kohen:
